Short bus rides will be organized to reach Camacha village, on the south coast of the island.

Camacha is a beautiful small village a few kilometres in the hills east of Funchal. It is famous for its 'Apple Festival' and its very active folklore dance groups. Camacha is also called 'the village of basket makers'. Nowadays they make furniture, hats, ornaments, kitchen utensils, wine holders and of course... baskets of all sizes and shapes. Camacha is also popular for their folk dolls.

Monte is a small village perched up in the hills overlooking Funchal, 6 km away from the centre of the capital, was formerly a health resort for Europe's high society.

The Austrian Emperor Charles I found exile on the island after having abdicated during the First World War. He and his family stayed in the historic 'Quinta do Monte', but only six months after his arrival he died of pneumonia. The ex-monarch was buried in the famous pilgrimage church 'Nossa Senhora do Monte' situated at the top of an impressive flight of stairs.

* From Monte you can go by cable car to and from Funchal.

Along the road from Funchal through Câmara de Lobos and up into the mountains you will arrive at Cabo Girão. This is the second highest cliff face in the world.
Standing at the iron railings of the viewpoint is quite a breathtaking adventure.

The vista point Eira do Serrado offers a splendid view at the crater shaped valley 400 M below. It has one of the most exclusive and beautiful views of the beautiful and rugged steep mountain gorges that drop into the ancient hearth of an extinct and green vallied volcano below. The village below is Curral das Freiras (or Nun's Valley) and was so named when many Nun's sought refuge from pillaging and rampaging pirates in centuries gone by.

Terreiro da Luta is a place next to the Monte Church, this belvedere, which overlooks Funchal, is also the departure point to an unforgettable experience: a "toboggan" ride in a wheelless vehicle, expertly driven by two men down the steep slope to the capital.
