A block of rooms has been reserved at the IOLTW 2001 Special Rates (reported in the Hotel Reservation Form) for reservations received by May 9^th. After May 9^th availability of rooms is not guaranteed and full rates will apply. As the Workshop will be held during high season in Italy, we recommend to reserve by the assigned deadline.
Rooms must be guaranteed by credit card.

IOLTW 2001 ROOM RATES, per day (including breakfast and lunch), for reservations received by May, 9^th:
- double room, single use: Lit. 150.000 (EURO 77,5),
- double room: Lit. 200.000 (EURO 103,3).

ROOM CANCELLATION POLICY:
- between May, 10^th and May, 31^st, 50% penalty will apply (over the participant credit card) calculated on the total amount of reservation,
- after May, 31^st and no show, 100% penalty (over the participant credit card) will apply, calculated on the total amount of reservation.

TRAVEL INFORMATION:

BY PLANE: Catania Fontanarossa International is the nearest and most convenient airport at some km. 40 from Giardini Naxos. It features several flights from the major Italian cities such as Milan, Bologna, Rome, Naples, Venice (Alitalia, Meridiana, Air Europe) and many international direct flights from important european cities such as Bruxelles (by Sabena), Munich (by Lufthansa), Barcelona (by Meridiana), Athens (by Alpi Eagles), Malta (by Air Malta) and many more. Lots of charter flights from all over the world land to Catania too. As the Workshop will be held during high season in Italy, we recommend to reserve the flight as soon as possible.
FROM CATANIA AIRPORT TO HOTEL RAMADA (approximately 1 hour drive):
By Taxi: It costs approximately 78 EURO. A transfer service at a reduced cost fee (approx 18 EURO per person) will be organized by IOLTW 2001 for participants arriving at the Catania airport nearly at the same time. If you wish to use such a service, please fill in the IOLTW 2001 Registration Form. You'll be informed - by email - about your organized transfer arrangement.
By Car: In front of the airport exit, in the parking space, you can find a small white-green building. It's the Rent a Car Bureau (Budget, Avis, Hertz, Maggiore, etc.). Take Autostrada (highway) A18 to Messina and exit Giardini Naxos. After you can follow indications to "Ramada Hotel".

WORKSHOP LOCATION:

Taormina is situated on a graceful hill which rises almost perpendicularly from the sea, with Etna (the highest volcano in Europe) as its fabulous backdrop. Its position is described as one of the most beautiful and impressive in the world. The beauty of Taormina lies not only in its panoramas, but also in the fascination of its ancient monuments. The city, founded in 358 B.C., has had changing fortunes throughout its history. It enjoyed its greatest period of splendour under the Greeks and Romans, a testimony of which are the numerous remains of glorious monuments. In this setting of legendary beauty, nestlings between rocks and ravines rising from a perennially blue sea, lie the sandy beaches of Taormina, out of which Giardini Naxos is one of the most famous.
Giardini Naxos is situated below Taormina, with its lovely bay and splendid sea. Naxos was the first Greek colony in Sicily, founded in 735 B.C. by Chalcidians of Euboea. To commemorate the event, a monument in bronze was erected at the very tip of Naxos - Capo Schisó: the NIKE. Naxos is archeologically one of the very few remaining chances to study the most ancient aspects of Greek urbanistics. The fertile sunny position, convenient for boats, must have been the reason for the choice made by the colonizers. From the 18th C. onwards the village of citrus farmers and fishermen lived simply in this "village of gardens", that's where the name Giardini (Gardens) comes from. A visitor to Giardini will also recall that Garibaldi (the italian hero who unified Italy starting a liberation-expedition from Sicily) left from the port of Giardini to land in Calabria. A monument commemorates the event.
